Hear it Gods – by Sarah Maddison

Boudica grew up in a dramatically changing world and embraced it. As Queen of the Iceni tribe, she took on the Roman invaders who killed her husband King Prasutagus, raped her daughters and flogged her publicly. Her revenge was sweet, and she destroyed their cities at Colchester, London and St Albans.
Cassius Dio described her as very tall, with wild yellow hair and a piercing glance and while her story is part of our history books, nobody is sure what happened to her. Some believe she died of sickness after battle, others believe she took poison – either was undoubtedly preferable to being taken to Rome as a trophy.
She remains one of our most iconic, empowered women – a warrior queen, who fought against the aggressor – and in many ways, she is as relevant today as she was then. Women around the world are still fighting for survival on the front line and in their homes as they protect their families from war, poverty and environmental disasters.
