Next year marks the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen’s birth and Whitchurch Silk Mill are engaged in a creative collaboration with Jane Austen’s House to produce silk ribbons inspired by the colours at Chawton. https://whitchurchsilkmill.org.uk/jane-austens-house-collaboration/

We couldn’t resist including Jane Austen in our Passionate Women collection and so we embarked on a group project inspired by the beautiful stamps issued in 2013 to coincide with with the 200th anniversary of the publication of her most famous novel, Pride and Prejudice. Each stamp has been creatively interpreted by individual members to create unique designs based on the colours and subject matter of each of Jane Austen’s six books. Many of the stitches and designs are based on those which would have been used by Jane Austen herself, who was, it is reported, a talented stitcher described by her nephew as being ‘successful with everything that she attempted with her fingers’. There are examples of her skills in needlework on display at the Jane Austen House. https://janeaustens.house
The pieces have proved exceptionally popular and all works with stamps have already sold. There are still two beautiful pieces without stamps for sale and our members are busy designing and creating new works which will be on display from mid October.
