October has been a very busy time for the Alchemist’s Needle – grab a coffee and read on to find out what we’ve been up to.
The ongoing exhibition at the Whitchurch Silk Mill has proven to be extremely well received with lovely comments written in the visitors’ book.
Our latest Jane Austen ‘stamp collection’ is available to purchase in the Mill Shop – not all six pieces are currently on display so please ask at the till if you are interested in the other novels.
We will continue to be stewarding the exhibition on particular days until it ends on 23rd November. On these days our sales table is set up with cards and affordable handmade goodies available to browse and purchase – great for stocking fillers. The next stewarded day is Saturday 2nd November. Don’t forget, if you have already visited the Silk Mill, your admission ticket is valid for a year (if validated at time of purchase).
As creative people, we are always seeking to develop our skills and find new inspiration which is why we invite textile artists to deliver workshops to our group throughout the year. October brought the delightful and extremely talented Angie Hughes to a village hall on the Hampshire-Wiltshire border where she delivered a wonderfully inspirational workshop entitled Monastery Floors. This involved printing and free machine embroidery to produce beautiful and sparkling medieval style tiles.

Three of the Alchemists have been busy delivering their own workshops and this week Anne Hellyer and Sarah Maddison shared their artistic expertise with a new generation with a Halloween bag printing workshop at the mill.
Coming up this weekend is the Goodworth Clatford Art and Craft Weekend. It is a great place to pick up some beautiful handmade gifts and work from our very own Sarah Maddison and Mandy Dunning will be on sale. Tea, coffee and cake also available!
