Passionate Women at the Whitchurch Silk Mill September – November 2024
Well behaved women seldom make history, so the saying goes, but throughout the centuries strong, rebellious women have successfully changed the direction of their own lives and those of others against all the odds.
From Boudicca to Dolly Parton, women have battled for equality and recognition in music, the Arts, science and politics, some have fought in wars and others have quietly raised families.
In celebration of women everywhere, Hampshire based Textile Art Group – The Alchemist’s Needle – brings a new body of work to the Silk Mill which features a series of unique artworks about some of the ‘Passionate Women’ who have shaped our world.
The eight artists use a range of textile techniques to create their work but for all of them it is the Alchemy of thread and stitch which binds them as a group. Free machine and hand embroidery, goldwork, applique, paint and print are all featured.
When not working towards an exhibition they work on group projects and challenges, some of which will be included in the show. Several members also teach and give talks about their work and there will be opportunities to meet the artists during the exhibition.
This exhibition is included in your entry tickets and is located on the middle floor of the Mill building in our exhibition area.
