Meet the Makers – Alison Young

Alison Young has always been interested in textiles from when she first made clothes for her two daughters when they were small. She progressed to textile work and completed the City & Guilds Part I Embroidery course in 1991. She is a skilled maker of patchwork quilts, which satisfies her need for accuracy.

The delicately hand-stitched textile works she has produced for the exhibition at Sir Harold Hiller Gardens use postage stamps as a starting point and demonstrate her love of nature. Alison also enjoys referencing cultural icons in her work as can be seen in her homage to ‘Big Yellow Taxi’, Joni Mitchell’s environmentalist anthem.
